MAYA
VENSANN
Maya Vensann (b. 1997, Albany, NY)
is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in the Capital Region. She is mostly known for her portraits and attention to detail. Since graduating with her BFA in 2019, she strives to emphasize exploration, playfulness, and joy in her work that expands over multiple mediums. She specializes in painting, drawing, murals, pottery, jewelry, and paper making. She is constantly looking for ways to expand her practice in different mediums to see how they can be woven together.
She is also a community artist and has participated and led multiple projects. In 2020, she started a project called Little Arts Big Connections, where she aimed to connect people through art during the height of the pandemic. The project consisted of people creating small artwork ranging anywhere from a family recipe to a poem, along with a message that they wanted to mail to their “penpal”. One of her main goals as a community artist is to uplift young Black artists and to show how the arts are fundamental especially in underprivileged communities.
She currently works at Hamilton Hill Arts Center (Schenectady, NY) where she teaches art to children ages 5-13. When she is not creating, you can find her baking, crocheting, or juggling. Clearing her mind trying to figure out which direction she should go next….
